Steve Storey Chilcotin 170

What do you ride (type of terrain)?

If it’s got dirt, rocks, or wood and points downhill…that kind!

What's the intended use for your new bike?

A bit of everything again. Racing EDR, Phat Wednesday DH’s, bike park laps, alpine rides, and trails & freeriding all around the world!

What model and colour?

Knolly Chilcotin 170 Kelly green fade. As soon as I saw that colour I knew it was the one I needed to have. Such a killer look!

How tall are you? What size frame did you get? How does it fit you?

5’8. S2. It fits perfectly with the 42.5 stem. Just the right amount of reach along with the perfect amount of wheelbase for performance and to feel stable at speed. All without sacrificing maneuverability or fun.

What's your full bike spec?

Fox 36 Factory and Fox DHX2. GX cranks, X0 derailleur, Shimano XT pedals, We Are One Unions laced to Hydra hubs.

  • Stem length (which stem?) 42.5 with 5 mm of stem spacers underneath

  • Bar width (which bar?) OneUp Carbon 35 mm riser bars cut to 770

  • Dropper length? (which dropper?) And is it dropped to the collar or 2” out from the collar? OneUp 190 mm dropper positioned 90 mm from the collar.

  • Crank length? (which crank?) 170

  • What chainring tooth count? 32

  • What rear cassette tooth count? 10-50
What other custom touches did you do? I long stroked a Fox 36 to 170mm. Why? I wasn’t totally sold on needing the chassis stiffness of a Fox 38. Plus a slightly lighter bike is pretty nice on those 2000 meter days.

  • Tire combo? General purpose, it’s a Minion DHF and DHR2 X0 Plus. Racing I’ll upgrade to Double Down and if it’s loose or muddy I’ll swap the DHF out for an Assegai.

  • Grips - why did you choose those? Chromag Basis for the perfect amount of diameter and durometer.

  • Brakes - why did you choose those? Code RSC’s. I dig their reliability and been running them forever. Other brake levers just feel weird to me now.

Knolly Bikes Chilcotin 170What do you love about your new bike?

What I love most about this bike is how much fun I have riding it. Whether it be in the park, up high in the alpine, or on after work pedal laps before dark kinda missions. No matter where I ride the Chilcotin it always leaves me with a smile on my face. Versatility defined! Last season was also the first time I wasn’t running a freeride or DH bike in the park. I was surprised at how much the Chilcotin felt at home in the Whistler Bike Park. It was a heck of a reliable workhorse for me last year and never let me down.
