Rider: Matt Stahl
Where do you live?
Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
What’s your favourite trail?
Kanuga bike park in Hendersonville, NC has a trail called Hemlock Epoch. It’s a fast flow
line that throws in some techy stuff. It’s got a bit of everything on it so it keeps you on your toes. I think everyone in NC would say it’s one of the best.
How tall are you? What's your inseam? Any bike fit considerations that are unique?
I’m 6’6” and built like a pro football player so frame reach and top tube length are what I
look at most. My inseam is about 35”. All my friends call me Mattsquatch.
What size frame?
I got the XL Chilcotin. Seeing as it is longer than most brands XXL, it was a easy choice.
What’s your build spec?
Zeb and X2 shock. I do have a Durolux 38 and Cane Creek Kitsuma tuned differently for when I am riding more bike park stuff.
Mavic Deemax wheels
XO mechanical drivetrain
Code RSC brakes with 220/200 rotors
Oneup 240mm dropper set at 220mm
Onza Aquila tires
I also put skateboard grip tape on the brake levers and shift paddles for more grip.
What are you running in your cockpit?
Chromag Fu bars, with a 31.8 clamp, 40mm rise and left them at 800mm wide.
Stem is a 40mm Chromag Hifi. I run about 40mm of spacers under the stem and find that this combo works well for me seeing as I ride everything from tech to jump lines. I also tend to look for bars with a bit more upsweep. Feels good on the wrists.
What’s the intended use (where are you riding it)?
Seeing as I am a big guy, I just wanted a bike that would fit and could handle my riding. Not many guys my size can do spins and flips as well as ride janky tech. It’s built for the variety we have here in North Carolina.
Why do you love your new ride?
Having had a few bad experiences with brands I am not going to name, I wanted a bike I
could trust. After talking with Ken I knew that the Chilcotin was the one for me. It’s fast as hell and feels really good in the air. I really don’t think there is another bike out there that fits me better.
