Where you live
North Vancouver, BC
Nearby trail system and your favorite trail?
I love to explore obscure spots on the many gravel logging roads between North Vancouver and Whistler. Since I purchased my Cache, I’ve ridden so many of these roads, some of which feel more like trails, just to see where they go and what I can find. It’s incredible how well the bike performs on those crazy descents, making each ride feel like a new adventure. From abandoned towns to the perfect look out, I’ve discovered some amazing views and hidden gems along the way.
What do you ride (type of terrain)? What's the intended use for your new bike?
The combination of gravel and janky roads are the typical terrain I have used my Cache for. I love that my bike opens up access to trailheads that are off-limits by car. Being on the path less traveled really adds to the adventure.
What model and colour?
How tall are you? What size frame did you get? How does it fit you?
I’m nearly 5 feet 8 inches tall, and I opted for the 54cm Cache. It fits me really well, but I chose a shorter stem since most of my height comes from my legs.
What's your bike spec? Did you do anything custom?
I’ve made quite a few modifications to my Cache since I bought it last year.
- Stem - Chromag HiFi v2 35mm
- Dropper - One of the key changes was adding a SDG 175mm dropper post with Easton Integrated Dropper Post Lever after descending a particularly steep and loose gravel road in Britannia, BC. It really boosts my confidence and security on the downhill.
- Tape - I originally went with pink bar tape, but after a year of use, it was quite discolored. I’ve since swapped it out for Lizard Skins 3.2mm in Black.
- Gearing - For easier climbing on steep gravel roads, I put on a Shimano SLX Cassette 46-11 (11 speed) and Wolf Tooth Drop Stop B 36T Chainring.
- Pedals - Shimano XT SPD
- Saddle - Chromag Juniper (women’s specific saddle)
What do you love about your new bike? How’s the bike performing?
The Knolly Cache is known for its stability and versatility, making it a great choice for tackling challenging terrain. It’s always a thrill when my bike handles tough terrain like a champ and the way my Cache absorbs bumps and provides stability makes those descents a lot more fun.
I originally bought the Cache to join my son in the Cowichan Crusher, a 100km gravel fondo with 2000m of elevation gain on Vancouver Island. Since then, I’ve discovered a passion for exploring the Sea to Sky corridor and am excited to plan a multi-day gravel adventure.
