Rob Donovan (Builder from NSMBA)

How tall are you? What's your inseam? any bike fit considerations that are unique?

I am 6 ft 3 inches tall with a 34 inch inseam. I have longer arms than normal, with a +10 ape index. I run a 50mm stem as anything smaller feels too short.

What size frame?

XL frame

What’s your build spec?

The bike is a collection of new, used and parts that I had lying around.

Emphasis was put on brakes, tires and a reliable drivetrain. The fork is a bit longer travel than the base build at 160mm

  • RS Yari RC 160 mm
  • Spank Oozy trail Wheelset
  • 2.4 Dissector rear tire (insert)
  • 2.5 Assegai front tire (no insert)
  • Shimano Deore 12 speed SLX mix match drive train
  • Shimano SLX Brakes - 203mm front / 180mm rear
  • Race face Aeffect 50mm stem
  • Chromag BZA Carbon bars

What are you running in your cockpit?

The cockpit is uncut 800mm bars with a 50mm stem. I try and keep the stack height rather low to keep the weight over the front tire and the bars long for my long arms.

What’s the intended use (where are you riding it)?

I intend to ride this bike on the majority of my trail rides and try and spice up the trails I know well. This bike is also intended for longer rides and to enjoy the climb up more often.

Where do you live?

I live on the North Shore and generally ride the Sea to Sky corridor. I hope to plan a few trips around BC this summer.

What’s your favourite trail?

  • Local trail Executioner on the North Shore
  • Non local trail: Boondocker in Revelstoke

Why do you love your new ride?

I love the new ride because it puts a smile on my face and I know that I’m having a good time if I’m making fun noises while going down. I love the hardtail because it makes me a smarter rider while focusing on smoother lines.
